Professional society credits CEO's leadership with expanding its influence and engagement

The $28 million-revenue Endocrine Society announced late Wednesday that CEO Barbara Byrd Keenan is no longer with the organization. The group did not immediately provide a reason for her departure.

Keenan first joined the Endocrine Society in 2013 after having previously led three organizations: the Institute of Food Technologists, the Community Associations Institute and Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals. She was named CEO Update's Professional Society CEO of the Year in 2019.

In a statement, the society credited Keenan with accelerating its global engagement, repositioning its suite of publications, implementing a new strategic plan and forging many new strategic partnerships. The group also noted that in Keenan's six years as CEO, it has won 10 awards for education, finance, program development, communications and diversity.

"On behalf of the board, we extend our appreciation to Barbara for her years of service and wish her well in her future endeavors," Endocrine Society President E. Dale Abel said.

Keenan earned $622,133 in take-home pay in 2017, according to the latest available tax records.

The Endocrine Society Board of Directors plans to engage in a formal search process to find Keenan's successor.
